ADELAIDE AND SURROUNDS

Adelaide, currently ranked the world’s third most liveable city, truly lives up to this accolade. It’s a rich melting pot of art, culture, and food, renowned for its yearly Adelaide Fringe festival—the world’s second-largest annual arts festival. The city borders the ocean along the west and to the east, an abundance of wineries.

The world-famous wine regions are only minutes from the city and Adelaide is known for some of Australia’s best wine country. Adelaide Hills is only a 20-minute drive, with more than 60 wineries to tour and closer to a capital city than any other wine region in the world. Like other Australian cities, Adelaide has long been home to Aboriginal people—in this case, the Kaurna people. They called the land Tarndanyangga, meaning “place of the red kangaroo.” Adelaideans continue this tradition, with Victoria Square in the city also known by its dual name, Tarndanya.
